Bone Grafting

In areas of missing or damaged teeth the bone can collapse and erode. Bone grafting replaces missing bone and can encourage new bone to develop.  It is used to improve the contour of the bone, often in combination with dental implants to restore function.

Dr. Thomas will begin with an examination of your teeth and their supporting structures. Typically, the doctor will also take a 3D image (Cone Beam CT scan) of the teeth and bone.

The doctor will review the 3D image and show you where the bone in your jaw may have changed, while discussing your options for repairing the defect with bone grafting.

Most commonly, the doctor will obtain the bone graft material from a tissue bank. These grafts do not require an additional surgical site and can typically be used with high success. Bone can also be used from a donor site in other parts of the body.

We will prepare a treatment plan based on your needs and preferences.
